ABOUT GREG

My family has lived in Richfield for over 25 years. My wife, Candace, and I have raised three daughters, and been blessed to own and run a successful business here.

I grew up in Centerfield on a dairy farm. Because of the time I spent working with my family there, I have a working knowledge of agriculture practices, water, and greenbelt rights.  In addition, I have a comprehensive understanding of land ownership in municipalities and in unincorporated lands bordering public land.

During the last 30 years I have built, owned, and operated an insurance business; this experience has brought me near many of our community's unique challenges.  Being close to and understanding these challenges has given me an opportunity to learn how our community can adapt and set ourselves up for a future of success.

I use my experience to help small and large employers navigate insurance costs, taxes, and human resource issues.  I am able to help them determine growth strategies and become more effective in reaching their goals. My clients include large farm operations, cattle operations, large trucking companies, retail businesses, manufacturing, engineering, and medical providers.  I find joy in working with these employers and individuals who are helping to keep our community moving forward.

ACHIEVEMENTS and OPPORTUNITIES

Greg is set apart in his ability to understand the needs of the many unique business sectors in Sevier County.  He uses his experience, and has to create opportunities for growth in our community.  He will continue to plan for our future and create a valley we can be proud of for generations to come by understanding our needs.  These are some of the most important achievements we made during his first term as commissioner along with plans to continue progress in each area.

MULTI-USE PUBLIC LANDS

For Our Enjoyment and Utilization

As “Utah’s Trails Country” Sevier County’s future and heritage are tied to public lands.  Multi-use public lands are essential for our economy and the well-being of our population. We use these lands for hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, grazing, camping, and other activities.  In 2024, I helped pass the Sevier County D-Road Inventory ordinance.  This ordinance protects access to public lands for generations by ensuring access roads (paved and non-paved) cannot be labeled as non-use.

MUNICPAL COLLABORATION

For Improved Town and City Representation

I have prioritized collaboration between the county commission and local officials by introducing the Council of Governments. Here, every town and city in Sevier County is represented.  We have state officials teach us about topics including budgeting, zoning, and other mayoral requests.  This council and its quarterly meeting are instrumental in understanding municipal needs.

ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION AND DEVELOPMENT

For a Well-Planned Future

There are currently over 1,300 business licenses issued throughout Sevier County.  I have assisted and encouraged growth in these businesses by redeveloping Sevier County’s Economic Development Council.  In the previous two years, this group has distributed $400,000 as part of a grant to increase jobs, production outputs, wages, and diversify business offerings.

EDUCATION

For an Improved Job Force

We can “grow our own” workforce by continuing to collaborate with Snow College and high school educational programs.  My role during the last 4 years has been connecting leaders from local businesses, ensuring Snow College is represented on the Economic Development Council, and networking with donors to assist in finding and fulfilling these needs.

REPRESENTATION

For Sevier County's Interests to be Heard Statewide

During my first term, I actively represented community interests at legislature and in leadership groups.  I have been named chairman for R6 – providing over 60 programs to our region; was recently nominated to serve as Second Vice President on the Utah Association of Counties; and am a member of the 7 County Infrastructure Coalition.
